Those of us who want to support rural Post Offices have chosen to have our old age pensions paid into Post Office card accounts instead of our bank accounts.
The Department of Work and Pensions’ have decided not to extend the contract for the Post Office card account beyond 2010.
Liberal Democrat Trade and Industry Spokesperson, Norman Lamb said:
“This decision will undermine the long-term viability of the Post Office network. The Post Office Card account will generate £1billion for Post Offices over the period 2003-2010. My fear is that by ending this contract many Post Offices will close, and millions of people will be denied the choice of using the Post Office card account at local branches. I am launching a national petition calling on the Government to reverse its decision.”
There is a copy of the petition on the counter of Insch Post Office. Please sign it if you can.
